Feni Government College is a government educational institution offering higher secondary and post-graduate courses under the direct control of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education.
Feni Government College, one of the oldest and traditional educational institutions of South-East Bengal, was founded in 1918 by the formation of a Trust Board under the leadership of Khan Bahadur Bajlul Haque. Jamm of the college- Late Khan Bahadur Abdul Aziz, late Khan Sahib Maulvi Bazlul Haque, late Maulvi Abdul Khalek, late Maulvi Hassan Ali, Moulavi Srivi, Srivi, Srivar, Srivar, Srivar, Srivar, Srivar. . The first president of the committee was the then Sub-Divisional Administrator of Feni Mr. Akramuzzaman Khan and the first secretary was late Maulvi Abdul Khalek.
They began the construction of the college by demolishing the current main art building site for an annual rent of one taka four annas from the authorities of Feni High School (now Feni Government Pilot Higher Secondary School). The working people of Kolkata and Rangoon diaspora contributed generously to establish the college.
'Feni College' was established in 1922, just one year after the establishment of 'Dhaka University' in 1921, known as the Oxford University of the East, and IA with 146 students in Bengali, English, Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, Mathematics, History and Logic on August 8 of the same year. Class starts. Due to the steady progress towards development from the beginning, the government and the university authorities raised the college to first class status in 1924 and sanctioned the teaching of BA courses with Honors in Arabic and History at the degree level under Calcutta University in just two years.
The entrepreneurs spread massive mass awareness across the township. As a result, a donation of around Rs. 20,000/= was collected in no time. Noakhali District Board provides a grant of Rs.50,000/- for setting up separate hostels for Hindu and Muslim students. On August 10, 1926, His Excellency the Governor of British India, Sir Hugh Lansdowne Foundation inaugurated the second floor of the main building of the KCI, SICS College. The Hazari Bari of the city and the Saha family of Chagalnaya donated land and money to set up Feni College.
It was published in the 'Calcutta Gazette' of 1937 as the pioneers achieved success in their efforts to establish a higher education platform in Feni despite the non-cooperation movement, the Khilafat and Swaraj movement across India and the post-World War II instability. During the Second World War, Feni College was used as a military hospital for the Allied forces during the war, so the activities of the college were temporarily shifted to Brakshanbaria and after the war, the college returned to its original location.
In the course of development of the college, I-Com course was started in 1941 and ISC-C course in 1947. The college was transformed into a full-fledged degree college with the introduction of B.Com in 1962 and B.Sc.C courses in 1964. After nationalization on May 7, 1979, Feni College started a new journey as Feni Government College.
At this stage Honors in 1997-1998 academic year and Master's final phase course in 2010-2011 academic year were launched. Currently Feni Government College offers 16 subjects at higher secondary level, 15 subjects at graduate (pass) level, 15 subjects at honors level (Bengali, English, Economics, Political Science, History and Culture of Islam, History, Philosophy, Social Work, Accountancy, Management, Mathematics, Physical Science, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany) and Masters in 7 subjects (Bengali, Economics, Political Science, Social Work, Accountancy, Management and Mathematics) courses are running. The total number of teachers in 15 departments including principal, vice principal is 72. The main campus of Feni Government College is situated on 10.50 acres of land, an immense haven of natural beauty.
16.66 acres of land along the old Dhaka-Chittagong highway was occupied by the order. Later the project was abandoned. At present Feni Modern Hospital has been established on 10.00 acres of the said 16.66 acres of land. In some parts of the remaining space, B.N. Head quarters of CC No. 1 Mainamati Battalion, Feni District Education Office in one part and Hostel of Feni Government College in the remaining part.
The teachers/students of Feni College had a glorious role in the liberation war of 1971. Professor Fazlul Haque of Department of Zoology. Former VP Maulan Syed Wayez Uddin, brave Major Salahuddin Mumtaz, Abu Tahir etc. were martyred in the liberation war of 1971. Heroic freedom fighters Lt Col (retd) Zafar Imam Bir Bikram, Ex GSO MP Zainal Abedin Hazari, Ex VP & MP Prof Zainal Abedin, Ex VP Zafar Ullah Khan, Commander Mortuza, Motaleb, Kamal, Musharraf, Qazi Noor Naboon, Shajahan, Md. Mucha Miah, former DC Abu Taher Bhuiyan and others were students of Feni College.
During the Liberation War of 1971, the college was used as a base for the invading forces, so furniture, books, books. Almost all scientific equipment was destroyed.
Feni College has been fortunate to have the services of many erudite and legendary teachers at different times in its long history. Some of them are: famous researcher of Bengali literature Gopal Halder, Dr. Ahmad Sharif, Dr. Najmul Karim. Dr. Mozaffar Ahmad, Dr. Shamsul Haque, Professor Ashab Uddin, renowned journalist Abdus Salam, former IG of Bangladesh Police.
